parenting wisely


the garage is destroyed. everyone did get out safely. starting today, state aides will be directly tied to kids going to school. the goal of the new statewide policy is to mick sure more kids show up more of the time.

went into effect they decided to take look at their own truancy policy t. that state law means that every child 20617 has to go to school or else the state may revoke benefits now as i mentioned this is the same day the school board heard a reading

on the own proposed policy. a policy that drps has not had since april. board members strows night they want to make sure they are consistent. the livelihood may depend on it. she understands how some

people may think the new state law may be targeting the new underbrif ledged. really. she never sees state aid and tells us now matter what else is going on in her lav. it was always important to make sure her daughter got to

school. make shore the kid rinse especially the grand rapids public school system. the dropout rate is so high. there is really no need for that. if you see it, do your job as parent.

right now nearly a quarter of all students have missed more than 18 days of school per year. leading to the board's new proposed policy where high school students could potentially fill a class absent 1 times or more per

semester where l they are excused or not. we have high expect teasings. frankly getting to school every dy on time is really not that high of an expectation. spokesperson says the

district looks at the state's new policy as just another tool then box to make sure that kids get an education telling us they plan to use it as a last resort when all other districts safe like getting councilors involved has not worked.

those kick in when any student misses a single day of school. we have a situation we may need to call child protective services because there is something happening on the home front where mom, dad, parent, guardian not tending

to the basic needs of that child anta that starts with making sure we are in school every day. the safety policy applies to people annual willing applying for stayed aid and to those who have to renew the application.

the superintendent did stay tonight. she plans to have a meeting on truancy with several

parenting wisely
