easter is quickly approaching. some parents are getting ready for big celebrations. they're replacing small baskets of candies with expensive toys and clothes. elise finch has more about this new trend toward easter
extravagance. laura is going all out this easter. she's having her son christopher's picture taken with the easter bunny at the mall. and she bought gifts for the one-year-old's easter basket.
stuffed animals and bath toys and stuff like that. little clothing for him. but yeah, it's definitely a little more than when i was a kid. i'm a new parent, and i'm excited. and yeah, i don't mind spoiling
my little boy a bit. her gifts are time compared to parents of older children who are also spoiling their kids this easter. a new trend is to make easter backs that rival the best birthday and christmas presents.
complete with clothing, toys, even electronics, examples are plastered on parenting websites, they have three children. they say they're aware of the trend, they just refuse to follow it. my friend's buy into it.
and i know my neighbors and things like that. but we try to be very minimalistic and keep it real. really simple. like when they were kids. the only stuff i got when i was a boy was chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.
that's all i got. some parents tell us the extravagant and gift-filled easter basket came about as parents tried to steer their kids away from candy but others say it's gone too far. you have to cheat. once a year it's not going to
hurt anybody. i think it's too much when they get you know ipads and you see nine-year-olds with iphones. i think it takes away from the meaning of the holiday if you make it about toys. it should be more about the
spirituality. store shelves are still lined with chocolate bunnies, a variety of candy eggs and plenty of peeps. but you'll also find fancy baskets, big bunnies, and tons of items on sale that make it easy to create an easter basket
bonanza if you choose. we should tell you, inspite of the extravagant basket trend, candy is still king.
